Real Women Write: Growing / Older: Sharing Stories, Sharing Lives in Prose and Poetry from Story Circle Network is an anthology of prose and poetry from members of Story Circle Network, an organization supporting women writers and asserting the importance of women’s stories. Here are 60 pieces by 45 authors, all responding to the profoundly significant experience of growth that comes to us with the passing of time. As a child, as a young woman, and all through our lives on into very old age, our understanding of ourselves and our place in the world expands.
The power of these writers’ explorations of that growth is made clear in the Foreword by SCN founder and award-winning author Susan Wittig Albert: “As we reveal ourselves in story, we become aware of the continuing core of our being under the fragmenting surface of our experience. As we become conscious of the multifaceted, multi-chaptered “I” who is the storyteller, we can discover the paradoxical and even contradictory versions of ourselves that we create for different occasions, different audiences—and the threads that weave all these versions into one whole. We can see how we have grown: grown older, yes, but also grown wiser, more tolerant and flexible, more transparent.”
