Sharing Our Lives in Food
A spattered testament
to decades of food from scratch,
it’s forever freckled
from bits of vittles she deftly prepared.
— Lavon Urbonas
In celebration of SCN’s 25th anniversary year, Story Circle Network created a fresh edition of our popular Kitchen Table Stories.
First published in 2007, KTS is a compendium of SCN members’ recipes and the stories connected to them, stories that are the kind shared around a kitchen table. Stories that are full of personal meaning but that also tell us something about the significance of food in our lives, and the people who share that food with us. By telling our Kitchen Table Stories, we create an opportunity for empathy, learning about others through the common human experience of cooking and sharing food.
Kitchen Table Stories 2022: Sharing Our Lives in Food contains 80 recipes by 45 authors of widely varied backgrounds and life experiences. The collection offers an opportunity to explore lives and tastes different than your own, or possibly very much the same as your own. With a thoughtful Foreword by renowned author Judy Alter, and a beautiful cover and book design by author/artist Sherry Wachter, this volume of all-new material will delight cooks everywhere.
The book is available on Amazon through this link: amazon.com//dp/B0BMSP3JJS/.
Story Circle Network is pleased to offer this opportunity to enjoy some of our favorite foods and meet a few of our remarkable members. As Judy Alter puts it in the Foreword:
“Here we invite you to sit at our kitchen table, reminisce with us, explore new recipes, and lose yourself in these stories of warm kitchens and happy people. Nothing bonds us together like breaking bread.”
Judy Alter is retired as director of Texas Christian University Press, and is an award-winning writer of historical novels and contemporary mysteries. She is the author of over a hundred books, essays, book reviews, columns, and cookbooks, including Gourmet on a Hotplate and Texas is Chili Country. https://judyalter.com
