Kitchen Table Writing includes 1-hour sessions with a writing professional who will provide advice and help you find solutions to your writing concerns. Upon completion of your 1-hour session, your writing consultant will provide constructive information you can use to get your writing back on track. These sessions are unique as they are strictly positive based. Feedback is given as to what images in your work is moving.
Class goals
Writers learn how to Write the Story of Their Heart.
Class communication method
This class will meet from 10 - 12 am Mountain Time ( 9 Pacific, 11 Central, 12 Eastern) on Thursdays form 9/24 - October 14. Taking inspiration from poetry, class members write from a suggested prompt and learn to write the story they are driven to tell. All instruction and comments are positive based. If a writer knows what they are doing well they can easily repeat this technique.Class outline
Class units run for 4 weeks. Each session is independent. It begins with a poem from classic and modern material. Most poems are found at Poet and Writers and at Poetry.com. Writers are asked to write for at least 30 minutes beginning with a suggested prompt. They are encouraged to keep the pen moving and not to correct or change their material as they work. I encourage writing by hand as this accesses a different side of the brain from writing at a keyboard. Keyboard writing is accepted if that is the only way a writer can communicate. Writers write for an assigned period of time and then each reads aloud what they just wrote. Class members comment on what of this material or images moved them. The workshop is experiential and takes place in live time. Class are recorded and can be played back on Zoom.
Class time commitment
Workshops run two hours. The first hour is spent on warmups and uninterrupted writing time. The second hour is the time to orally share their work and for class comments and discussion. This discussion time can be extended for a second hour depending on the class size.Instructor bio
Anne Randolph, creator of www.KitchenTableWriting.com, inspires writers to find their authentic voice. She presents workshops in Denver and conferences including the Screenwriters Conference in Santa Fe. Awarded grants from the National Endowment of the Arts, director of two opera companies and the Colorado Symphony, she has worked as Stage Director at the English National Opera, New York City Opera, Opera Memphis, and Opera Colorado as well as in London, Italy, and Amsterdam.
