Silent Spaces
In the chaos of this life
Amidst relentless noise,
Despite incessant strife
Are spaces of silent joy.
In stillness after rain,
Snowflakes as they fall,
Swaying fields of grain,
Tiny insects on the crawl,
Breath held in anticipation,
Sleeping kittens in the sun,
Mothering during gestation,
A freshly tilled garden.
Unacknowledged compassion,
Good deeds done on the sly
In anonymous fashion
No alternate reason why.
Gratitude, reflection,
Kindness of the heart.
True love and affection
In silence is an art.
Lorinda Boyer is a life-long Pacific Northwest resident. She spends her days writing, reading, running, drinking way too much coffee and hanging with her wife, Sandy and her pup, Mollie. Lorinda’s journey through fundamentalist Christianity, sexual addiction, and eventual self-acceptance unfolds in her memoir, Straight Enough. More than a coming-out story this is a coming-into story—coming into an authentic life and self.
